Who are we?
The Mad Divas are official members of the JRDA. We are an organization that strives to create a safe, fun and positive environment - where girls can be athletic, self-expressive, self-empowered, obtain new friendships and increase self-confidence. Junior Roller Derby is a place where young girls learn team work, good values, discipline, interaction, and stewardship through the competitive sport of Flat Track Roller Derby!
Mad Divas Junior Derby is an all female, flat-track, low-contact & full contact roller derby league specifically for girls between the ages of 12 and 17. We are being trained and encouraged by present Blue Ridge Rollergirls, WNC's womens rollerderby team. We are very excited to skate, learn the safety and rules of derby, and form strong positive bonds with many eccentric divas of our community and neighboring communities.
What is Junior Roller Derby?
Junior Roller Derby is a contact sport played on roller skates. Two teams of 5 skaters on a track competing against each other to get the most points by their designated skater ("jammer") passing the other team's skaters ("blockers") as many times as they can per 2 minute play ("jam"). The team with the most points after the contest ("bout"), WINS!
What is our goal?
To create a positive and safe environment for girls ages 12-17 to develop athletic abilities, build self-confidence, leadership skills, teamwork and improve overall fitness while playing the sport of roller derby.
When is our season?
March 6th - November 16, 2013. Wednesdays 4:45-7pm at Tarwheels in Swannanoa, NC.
How will this affect us?
As growing women, practice with the Divas will promote strong bodies, independent minds, and tender spirits. We hope this is contagious to other girls whom we come in contact.
